Inventory of the birds of Niokolo-Koba National Park Uploaded: Tuesday 8 November 2016
Thanks to a second grant from the African Bird Club GIE NIOKOLO was able to complete the inventory of birdlife in and around Niokolo-Koba National Park started initiated after the scientific workshop of June 2014. In all, 12 missions including 5 organised jointly with the Directorate of National Parks and 2 conducted in conjunction with the group birding tours of 2015 and 2016 yielded 1,772 observations of 185 species, which were summarised in a poster presented at the Pan African Ornithological Congress held in Dakar in October 2016. The raw data have been submitted to the eBird repository and those on raptors to the African Raptor Data Bank. GIE NIOKOLO is continuing this work, with an additional mission in October 2016 yielding 17 more species to bring the count to 202 species out of the 366 thought to be present in an around the Park. All of the data are available on an open access basis - those needing further information than that available in the above international repositories may enquire by email to GIE NIOKOLO.
